If you want your children to be more active and get outside a bit more, try a few of these fun after school activities that are perfect for the autumn season.

Color Walks
Thanks to all of the leaves changing colors, this activity can be done virtually anywhere you like. Have your child pick a color and then simply get out and get them looking around! Not only is this a great way to play outside, it’s an opportunity for your child to learn more about nature and colors.

Scavenger Hunts
Scavenger hunts can be complex and take hours, or they can be simple and situated right around your home and backyard. If you make a list of autumn pieces of nature to find, your afternoon is sure to be a fantastic autumn adventure.

Leaf Play
Who needs gymnastics and fitness centers when you have a backyard and a rake? Jumping into a big pile of leaves is one of the most popular activities during the fall. There’s nothing more satisfying for kids than to see all of their hard work paying off with a fun activity. Bonus: this is an excellent way to get all of those extra leaves out of your backyard.

Create an Obstacle Course
Whether you use pool noodles and PVC pipes or sticks and pine cones, everybody loves a good obstacle course. No matter what you choose to make your backyard course out of, everyone’s guaranteed to have a good time and get a little exercise.

Apple Picking
There’s no better way to get moving than to go out apple picking. Not only does it get you out of the house, it’s an opportunity to teach your children about nature and picking your own fruits and vegetables. Who knows? You may even be inspired to create a little family garden when you get home.
